Course Description

PHASE I
Students complete Nursing Concepts I, Life Science, Practical Nursing I, Practical Nursing II and Medical Surgical I.

PHASE II
Students complete IV Therapy, Phlebotomy, Medical Surgical II, Maternal Child Nursing, Nursing Concepts II and NCLEX LPN Review.

The main areas of focus are…

  • Take medical histories and recording vital signs
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients
  • Prepare patients and assist the physician during examinations
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens or perform basic laboratory tests on the premises
  • Instruct patients about medication and special diets
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician
  • Draw blood, prepare patients for x-rays, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures, and change dressings, sterilize medical instruments
  • Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate
  • Dress wounds
  • Focus assessments
  • Administer pre- and post-operative care
  • Administer prescribed medication
  • Observe patient condition
  • Record food and fluid intake and output
  • Monitor intravenous therapy

*Students are required to provide their transportation, attend orientation and provide references.

Career Information

LPNs care for ill, injured, convalescent and disabled persons in hospitals, clinics, doctor’s offices, private homes, long term care facilities, and other medical care facilities. Duties vary depending on each state’s nurse practice regulations, however, LPNs may take part in these tasks, and additional procedures.

Career and educational path: After students complete this program and pass their PN licensure exam, they may enter the workforce as an LPN and may continue their training and education for a degree in nursing or related field.

Program accreditation: The program is approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.


College Credit

Hours vary based on nursing credits given by colleges.
